Review the Waterloo Bistro

At the Waterloo Bistro we love to hear of your experiences of wining and dining with us. We have therefore created this page, to allow you, to let us know what you thought of our Bistro and Bar. After all it is you, our customer and friend, who we value and work so hard to impress.

Martin and Tanya Linaker

"Tanya and I just wanted to express our appreciation and thanks to you and all your staff for the excellent lunch party last Sunday to celebrate our daughters Christening.

We particularly appreciated the care and attention to detail that you took in the planning stage and for organizing all the extras for us. All your staff were really friendly and most welcoming on the day and it made the party go with a swing. Managing to keep adults and children happy at the same time is no easy feat, but you did it very well.

The food was excellent with beautifully fresh local ingredients being used, which many remarked on. All our guests were most complimentary about the food, the service and the wines. The setting was ideal for a family celebration party of around 30 with dancing and we would have no hesitation in recommending you to others as providing excellent value for money.

We hope that your restaurant gets the success it deserves and that you go from strength to strength."

"Hi Paul Kinnoch, I have had lots of feedback from my guests who had lunch with you last Sunday, to say nothing of feedback from my wife, who was the cause of it all!! Everyone has spoken highly of the meal you provided, from the voracious youths to the veggies and the gourmets. My guests all felt that the dishes as presented were well worth waiting for , and that the time between courses was appropriate for a reunion occasion when there was a great deal of jabbering to be done!! So let me thank you and your staff for their services and contribution to a lovely family reunion. sincerely,"

"Had a fantastic meal on Monday evening. The pizza was a real talking point it was delicious. Fresh mackerel fillets on a bed of roast vegetables - the best I have ever had and all for such a reasonable price. We'll be back!"

"Four of us called for lunch. The staff were efficient and cheerful and we all enjoyed the fare. The pasta was particularly nice and very enjoyable and the two ladies enjoyed their fish teas. Good quality food and service. No complaints about the prices either. Good value for money."

"Excellent food lovely location in a quiet village. Great traditional Scottish Haggis but also accompanied with a lovely Italian menu. Acceptable price. Well worth a quick visit off the A1."

"SETTING: Set back from the road and next to the Tyne, the former Poldrate is now in the very capable hands of Paul and Ann Kinnoch. This is a calm and relaxing bistro with a wonderful inner courtyard for alfresco dining, while the bar is great for a glass of wine or a pint of well-kept cask Deuchars IPA."

"EATING: The menu features locally sourced ingredients with a good smattering of meat, fish, pizza and pasta dishes. The breaded haggis starter has a wonderful spiciness, complemented by the sweet compote of red onion while the chicken liver pate is a real treat with the roasted tomato chutney. Paul doesn't believe in stinting on portions; the pizzas are enormous, stone-baked affairs. My poached salmon risotto (from the specials board) is creamy pink from the fish, flecked with green herbs, a truly summery dish. The rib eye is well flavoured and tender - the pizzaiola topping of tomatoes, herbs and mozzarella is great with a glass of Chilean red."

"Just a note to say thank you for last night. Everything worked well, the food was fantastic and the atmosphere for all the family could not have been bettered. All the comments I heard were heaping praise on the venue, the staff and the food. Well done and pass on our congratulations to you team."

"I had a lovely lunch with my friend. It was quiet, and lacked a little atmosphere on that particular day, but the service was excellent and the food was superb quality. I would recommend the Calamari starter. I look forward to returning again."

"My friend and I had a wonderful lunch today at the Bistro. The menu was superb, the prices excellent and the food mmmmmmm! It's nice to see the ex chef from the Tyneside making his mark on this lovely place. The only problem is the parking. Great food served by attentive staff and in delightful surrounds. Definitely 5 Stars. I plan to make a booking for next week for a family birthday. Friday 9th January 2009"

"After enjoying many great meals there, we chose the Waterloo as the venue for our wedding ceremony and reception in February 2010, and it was a fantastic day. We got married in the Courtyard Bar which was beautifully decorated and laid out, and then moved through to the equally beautiful restaurant for the meal, speeches and dancing. From early on in the planning stages unitl the last moment of the evening reception, Paul and his team looked after all 50 of us throughout and provided an excellent menu and romantic setting for what everyone said was a fabulous day. Paul organised a band and a piper, and once we had selected the courses and wines from his choice of wedding menus(great quality and excellent value) all we had to do was turn up. Thankfully we both did :) We can thoroughly recommend the Waterloo as a great venue to get married and enjoy a relaxing reception with excellent food and wine."

"We celebrated our 45th Anniversary at the Waterloo Bistro. All our guests raved about the menu, the service and all plan to make a return trip. All the staff are without exception, superb. I don't now how Paul does it, but he manages to provide that personal touch to everyone - reminiscent of the best restaurants of the 70's. If you are eating out for any reason - look no further than the Waterloo. Although the staff will do their best to make room for you - it is so good that I would recommend making a booking."

Douglas Osler

"Thanks again to the Waterloo for an excellent meal. Ron and I celebrated our 46th Wedding Anniversary on Sunday, just the two of us this year. Superb service as usual and the food.... I had Lobster Thermidor and it was sooooo good, can't wait to have it again. If it is on the menu when you visit, do not hesitate in booking yours as soon as you arrive. The lobster is popular and I was fortunate to get the penultimate one. Looking forward to our next visit."

"We had a meal yesterday evening and wanted to compliment Rachel on the way she looked after us. We went first to the bar for a glass of champagne. She went for the menus, took our order, told us when the starter was ready, carried our coats even! Then we were well looked after during the meal She was very pleasant& professional. Just thought you should know."

"Popped in for a late lunch and what a surprise. We went for the £11.95 two course menu. Great choice, fantastic food, great value all served with a smile. So have also put a review on Trip Advisor to try and make you No 1 in Haddington which you deserve."

Kenny Greenan - July 9, 2011

"Popped back into the Waterloo last night. Food was devine, presentation was like a picture postcard once again big Paul & his team exceeded all expectations."
